Exciting Development for DanceSport Australia
Introducing the UNDER 16 DIVISION
THE ISSUE: The junior and Juvenile divisions have both developed to a stage where the current system is simply not working. Some of the current issues faced by many parents and promoters:
- Too big a leap to go from recreational to amateur, losing students in this transition
- Variable costs for registration
- Little or no competition for Amateur couples (but higher cost)
- Complex and confusing system of registration
- Dress codes that do not comply with international standards
- Not current or in alignment with international choreography

DanceSport Member receives Order of Australia Medal
Jeff Elworthy O.A.M., Queensland
In recognition of his long association with DanceSport, Jeff Elworthy received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) from Queensland State Governor, Mr Paul de Jersey, at an awards ceremony at Government House in Paddington in April 2019.

Victorian Governor's Performance Series
Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria and Mr Anthony Howard AM QC opened Government House for an afternoon of dance on 31st October 2019.

DanceSport receives Duke of Edinburgh International Award
Awarded to NSW youth competitors; Henley Warner and Max Oldham, both 15 years of age. They received the international award at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 12 September 2019.
It is the first time competitors from DSA have been recognised in this prestigious award.

Wrap up of LiveLighter WA Open 2019 and State Awards
LiveLighter WA Open Championship 2019 great success
The LiveLighter 2019 DanceSport WA Open Championship was once again a huge success, with record entries. Sponsored by Healthway and Lotteries West, the championship was staged at the HBF Stadium. This is a premier platform at which to showcase our state championships.

DanceSport Australia Academy
The Accreditation Commission has been renamed to the DanceSport Australia Academy or DSA Academy, for short.
This change reflects the widening role of this important commission that is now moving well beyond a simply accreditation function. Dr. Martyn Kibel will continue as the head of the Academy and he is looking forward to new projects that include on-line tutorial videos dedicated to DanceSport.
Update on Changes to Accreditation
From August 1st, 2019 some major changes to Accreditation exams were introduced. Along with these was the introduction of a new Junior Mentoring Program. These changes are designed to improve the pathways for becoming a qualified Instructor / Coach and a qualified Competition / Championship Adjudicator.
