DanceSport Member receives Order of Australia Medal
In recognition of his long association with DanceSport Australia, Jeff Elworthy received the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) from Queensland State Governor, Mr Paul de Jersey, at an awards ceremony at Government House in Paddington in April 2019.
"It certainly was a great honour to receive this award, not only for myself and my family but also for the recognition of DanceSport" Jeff told onlookers, including his son Blake, who nominated him for the award.
Rare Acknowledgement
Prior to Jeff an OAM for DanceSport had not been presented in Queensland for decades.
Extraordinary service to DanceSport
Jeff has been a licensed DanceSport coach, adjudicator and scrutineer for over 41 years.
In his time with DanceSport Australia, Jeff has been the State and National Chairman of Adjudicators for 25 years; the International Chairman of Adjudicators for three years; a member of the DSA Rules Commission since 2010; is the current DSA Examiner; has been the National Director of DSA for 10 years; a DSA Examiner in all dance styles for the Queensland branch of the Australian Dancing Board, and served as Committee Member/Chairman from 1989-2000.
During his time with the Australian Dancing Society, Jeff was an ADS National Councillor for 10 years, the ADS National Chairman of Examiners for three years and was the editor of ADS newsletter Dance Around Australia for two years.
Jeff is also a life member of the Australian Dance Society.
As well as all the above, Jeff has been the State Examinations Officer for the Queensland branch of the Australian Dance Society since 1989, served as State Secretary for 14 years, was a former Chairman of the branch, a committee member for more than 20 years, a State Medals Supervisor for 30 years, and was the Editor of Queensland Update for 10 years.
Jeff was the co-principal of Elworthy Dance Studio in Sunnybank, Brisbane for over 30 years.
