Wrap up of LiveLighter WA Open 2019 and State Awards
LiveLighter WA Open Championship 2019 great success
The LiveLighter 2019 DanceSport WA Open Championship was once again a huge success, with record entries.
Sponsored by Healthway and Lotteries West, the championship was staged at the HBF Stadium. This is a premier platform at which to showcase our state championships.
We welcomed competitors and adjudicators from the east coast and New Zealand.
This was the final WA ranking event to establish our state representatives for the 2019 Australian Championships in Melbourne.
Competitors were presented with funding and badges at our DSWA branch general meeting on 3 November 2019.
State Awards
We are delighted to announce the winners of the following DSWA awards, which were presented bi-annually at the state championships.
DanceSport WA Volunteer Award: Martin Van Der Poel
Martin works tirelessly at recording our events for viewing on You Tube. He offers his time free of charge and spends many hours editing and presenting quality DanceSport history.
Robert Wrightson AM Competitor Couple Award: Lucien Maart and Sabrina Serra
Lucien and Sabrina continue to compete in all three styles. Now in the under 21 age group, they are regularly ranked in the top of the WA State Ranking and continue to delight audiences at events here and interstate.
Sam Gilkison MBE Administrator Award: Judy Williams
Judy has brought DanceSport into the lives of many junior and adult para dancers.
From the very first ‘Come and Try Day’ to the latest Para Dance competitions at the WA State and Australian Championships, Para Dance is now very definitely part of DanceSport.
Judy was invited by the International Paralympic Committee to train in Taipei, and achieved Paradance Coaching qualifications.
