President's message

2018 Welcome

This year has kicked off with a record number of competitions available on the dancesport.org.au On-Line Entry System, 17 DanceSport competitions to be exact.

The impact of this is enormous because when issues arise from an incorrect entry it can be sorted before the competition, NOT at the event on the day which causes stress for all involved. Of course the added benefit for Organisers & Scrutineers to download the entry lists at a touch of a button, no typing, does not pass unnoticed.

Streamlining all aspects of DanceSport, not just the entries, is a cost saving that will benefit all DSA Members. The newsletter you are currently reading is one example of this automation which is now integrated into the website. However whilst automation is a key factor it is the support of our behind the scenes volunteers that take theoretical possibilities and turn them into reality.

All States are now pulling together with our National Marketing Team to deliver DanceSport updates and for that I must thank everyone involved. A sincere thank you to all that have given their free time over the holiday period, well done.

Here's to a great 2018.

Recreational Rule Clarification for 2018

Recreational Rule Clarification for 2018

We have had complaints about Recreational competition not being a level playing field. Therefore:

  • We have addressed this by clarifying the rule, which means limiting participation to what was originally intended
  • This division is designed to be affordable and fun, especially for families and children
  • Amateur competitors or teachers who want to partner Recreational students must do so in Teacher/Student events

Introducing Pro Am and Teacher/Student Rankings

Introducing Pro Am and Teacher/Student Rankings

Rankings are now available for Teacher/Student events, and these have been posted on our P5000 website. You will find them alongside the Pro Am competition rankings.

The rankings have taken a while to implement due to the technicality of collating events such as Teacher/Student competitions, where one competitor can partner various dancers.

We have obtained results from the 2017 Australian DanceSport Championships (also on the p5000 website).

DanceSport Australia thanks the scrutineers for creating these rankings.
