President's message2018 Welcome This year has kicked off with a record number of competitions available on the dancesport.org.au On-Line Entry System, 17 DanceSport competitions to be exact. The impact of this is enormous because when issues arise from an incorrect entry it can be sorted before the competition, NOT at the event on the day which causes stress for all involved. Of course the added benefit for Organisers & Scrutineers to download the entry lists at a touch of a button, no typing, does not pass unnoticed. Streamlining all aspects of DanceSport, not just the entries, is a cost saving that will benefit all DSA Members. The newsletter you are currently reading is one example of this automation which is now integrated into the website. However whilst automation is a key factor it is the support of our behind the scenes volunteers that take theoretical possibilities and turn them into reality. All States are now pulling together with our National Marketing Team to deliver DanceSport updates and for that I must thank everyone involved. A sincere thank you to all that have given their free time over the holiday period, well done. Here's to a great 2018. Read on for more details Introducing Pro Am and Teacher/Student RankingsRankings are now available for Teacher/Student events, and these have been posted on our P5000 website. You will find them alongside the Pro Am competition rankings. The rankings have taken a while to implement due to the technicality of collating events such as Teacher/Student competitions, where one competitor can partner various dancers. We have obtained results from the 2017 Australian DanceSport Championships (also on the p5000 website). DanceSport Australia thanks the scrutineers for creating these rankings. Free tickets winners to DSA National ChampionshipOn the lead-up to Christmas we attracted 300 entries for this promotion via social media. Three winners won free entry to the DSA National Championship being held on the weekend of Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July. The event is held in Wollongong, a picturesque seaside city with plenty of affordable accommodation and attractions, just an hour south of Sydney. The DSA National Championship venue is right across the road from the beach, making it easy to take a tranquil break or stroll. Read on for results on: Para DanceSport WAAn exciting new branch of DanceSport - Para Dance Sport, previously known as Wheelchair Dance Sport - is coming to the west. Three winners won free entry to the DSA National Championship taking place on the weekend of Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July. The first three training sessions with coaches and DanceSport competitors were a real success through Come and Try days. Read on for more details News from SA - Development of its strategic planOur South Australian branch has been busy working out how to grow their grassroots area, and have tackled the area of strategic planning. Last April, a representative from the Department of Sport and Recreation SA facilitated a strategy workshop with 22 of their members. Together they came up with a plan and actions. Read on for more details Help spread the word on "Five Free Dance Lessons" for Victorian Premier's Active AprilDanceSport Victoria has again joined the PAA campaign for April 2018 - this time as a major partner. Premier's Active April is all about encouraging Victorians to be active. Studios, i.e. Registered Training Facilities (RTFs), that join the campaign can advertise, free of charge, their studio and classes on the PAA website.
