Important changes to rules of DanceSport
Your DSA Rules Commission team have continued to monitor our rules to keep them fresh and contemporary. Here is a summary of the more important changes that will come into effect on 1st January, 2019:
Rule 24.2 a) and b) – Teacher / Student Events
The current sub-section a) be deleted and that the words of sub section b) become the effective rule, thus:
24.2 All competitors who compete in any of the above categories must be registered with DSA in an applicable category.
a) For the purposes of Teacher / Student events, and for the calendar year 2018 only, DSA will recognise registered Amateur Division members as the “Teacher” member of competing partnerships
b) From January 1st 2019, the “Teacher” member of competing partnerships in Teacher / Student events must hold a DSA Accreditation.
For the purposes of this clause only, the gaining of an Assistant Dancesport Instructor accreditation in one style only is acceptable.
Rules 24.3 and 24.4 – Teacher / Student Events
In rule 24.3, the reference to 24.1 a) and e) will be deleted and in rule 24.4, the reference to 24.1 d) will be deleted, thus:
24.3 Competitors in Rule 24.1
a), c) and e) may be further sub divided into Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced events based on the level of the Recreational Division competitor student of the partnership. Open to include all Levels may also be offered in each category.
24.4 Competitors in Rule 24.1 b)
and d) may be further sub divided into Grades C, B and A based on the level of the Amateur Division competitor of the partnership. Open to include all Grades may also be offered in each category.
Rule 24 – Teacher / Student Events – Dress Code for Juveniles
A new rule will be inserted as Rule 24.8, thus:
24.8 In Teacher / Recreational events that are confined to Juvenile competitors only, then the Restricted Dress and Approved Syllabus regulations, as applicable to this Age Group, are to apply.
Professionals Competing and Adjudicating
A new rule will be established that DSA members who are officiating at a DSA registered event are not permitted to compete at that event on the day on which they are officiating.
