2023 World Para Dance Coaches Course
A World Para Dance Coaching Course is being held between the 27th – 29th January at the Perth Town Hall, culminating with a formal reception with the Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency Chris Dawson APM at Government House on the 31st January 2023.
Para and Ability Dance WA Inc, a not for profit organisation, advocating on behalf of people living with disability, in partnership with DanceSport WA, was successful in being awarded a Coaching and Officiating Grant from the Western Australian Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries to host a World Para Dance Coaching Course.
The course is being delivered by Diethard Govekar of the World Para Dance Technical Committee, with the assistance of Kerstin Govekar, President Wheelchair Dance Sport Federation Austria.
Diethard is an Internationally Accredited Para Dance Adjudicator and Trainer and a World Para Dance Technical Committee member. Both Diethard Govekar and Kerstin Govekar coach the very successful Austrian Para Dance Team.
This course is an International event, the first of its kind to be held not only Oceania region, but a first for Australia. The course is currently attracting participants from all over Australia, Australia, the South East Asian region and countries including Japan and Hong Kong.
Western Australia leads Australia in Para Dancing, which has been since inception in Western Australia in 2018, with up to 20 couples participating. Western Australia has pioneered the inclusion of Para Dance events into the regular State Dance Sport competition calendar.
Para Dance events have been included in the Australian DanceSport Championship since 2018.
