Amateur Division Age Groups
There are no changes to the Age Grouping rules for the 2014 calendar year.
Recreational Division Age Groups
Currently the Recreational Age Groups will mirror the existing age groups used for Amateur Division.
Where they will differ from Amateur Division is that the 'Year of Birth' and not the 'Birth Date' will be the reference point used for determining a competitor's age.
This will;
Give Competitors (and parents) consistency over the calendar year. Competitors can plan the year's activities without having to factor in the movement to another Age Group.
Brings DanceSport in line with other Recreational Bodies and School Sports programs. This also keep DSA consistent with other DanceSport organisations.
Removes a huge administrative burden that would be required for tracking individual birth dates.
For example the Age Groups for the 2014 Competition Year will be as follows;
| Age Group | Year of Birth | |
|---|---|---|
| Juvenile | 12 & under | 2002 or later |
| Junior | 13 to under 16 | 1999 to 2001 |
| Under 21 | 16 to under 21 | 1994 to 1998 |
| Adult | 21 to under 35 | 1993 to 1980 |
| Masters I | 35 to under 50 | 1979 to 1965 |
| Masters II | 50 to under 60 | 1964 to 1955 |
| Masters III | over 60 | 1954 & earlier |
NOTE: It is important to understand that these Age Groups are how Recreational Competitors are recorded within the database system and not the scope of Events a Competition may run. For example a competition may run an Event for children under the age of 8. In this case the Competition Organiser has set a specific age restriction for that Event.
