Elevation Points FAQ
If I'm the only competitor do I still get Elevation Points?
No, to be awarded Elevation Points you must win a Graded event that has a total of 4 or more couples (or solo competitors). In other words, you must beat at least 3 other couples (or solo competitors) to take first place.
Do I get Points for competing in Open Events?
Yes, for the Australian Championship – both Open and Graded events attract Elevation Points.
No, for all other competitions – only Graded events attract Elevation Points.
Do I elevate if I win at the Australian Championship?
Yes, any win at the Australian Championship results in an automatic elevation on the next Elevation Date (1st January). There must be 4 or more couples (or solo competitors) in the event.
Do I get Points for competing in Lead, Follow or Solo Events?
Generally No, most Competition Organisers only run Open Lead, Follow and Solo events, however if the Organiser runs C or B Grade Lead, Follow or Solo events, these will attract Elevation Points.
At the Australian Championship, all Lead, Follow and Solo events attract Elevation Points, including the Open events.
Do I keep excess Points when I elevate?
No, your Elevation Points will be reset to zero when you elevate.
Are my Points reset each year?
No, Elevation Points are only reset when a competitor elevates. If a competitor has insufficient Points at the Elevation Date, they will keep those points into the new assessment period.
Do I keep dancing in the same Grade even though I have reached 60 Elevation Points?
Yes, regardless of the number of Elevation Points accumulated, competitors will compete at the same Grade until 1st January the following year. If you want to elevate before 1st January, contact the Admin Team.
Do A Grade and Professional competitors get Points?
No, A Grade and Professional competitors do not elevate.
