Awarding of
Elevation Points

Elevation Points are awarded when a couple (or solo competitor) wins an event competing against 3 or more couples (or solo competitors).

Events that attract Elevation Points are C Grade, B Grade and C&B Grade events, except for Development Level competitions.

The Elevation Points are awarded to each person in the winning partnership. It is possible due to partnership changes and Age Group regulations that persons within a 'couple' can have different Grades and Elevation Points.

Note: It is not the number of couples (or solo competitors) on the dance floor as in the case of combined events, it is the true number of couples in their event as shown in the results.

What is a WIN worth?

A win at the Australian Championship is worth more than a win at a National Championship, a win at a National Championship is worth more than a Championship, etc. Each tier of competition has a value in points as shown below.

Competition Status & Points Awarded

  1. The Australian Championship – 60 Points

All Under 16 Division and Amateur Division events at the Australian Championship are awarded Elevation Points provided that there are the required amount of couples (or solo competitors) in the event. This includes 'Open' events.

  2. A National Championship – 30 Points

  3. A State Open or Championship – 20 Points

  4. A Competition – 10 Points

  5. A Development Competition – Zero Points

How are Elevation Points Added to a Competitor's Account?

After each competition, the results from the scrutineering software are uploaded directly to the DanceSport Australia website. This process checks the 'place' obtained by each competitor and the 'total number' of competitors in the event. Provided that all conditions are met, the corresponding Elevation Points are applied.
