Writing a good advert

A title people will find

Most people search, so put the words they will search for in your title: what it is, the style, the size, and where.

What to put in the text

  • The price, and whether you will take offers.
  • Size and measurements – for a costume, bust, waist, hips and length; for shoes, the size and heel height.
  • Condition – how often it has been worn, and any alterations, repairs or missing stones.
  • The maker or designer, if known.
  • Where you are, and whether you will post or hand over at a competition.

What to leave out

Keep personal details out of your advert. No phone number, home address, bank details or social media handles – people contact you through the Send a Message button, and you choose who to reply to.

Formatting is kept simple on purpose: bold, italics, underline, paragraphs and lists. Links, colours and pasted styles are removed when the advert is saved.
