Buying safely

Every advertiser is a DanceSport Australia Member and must follow the Member Protection Policy and Code of Conduct. The sale itself is between you and the seller – DanceSport Australia does not handle payment or delivery – so take the same care you would buying from anyone.

Before you pay

  • Ask questions. Measurements, condition, any alterations or repairs, and more photos if you need them.
  • See it first if you can. Costumes are often handed over at a competition or a studio – a public place with people around.
  • Agree postage and who pays it before money changes hands, and ask for tracking.

Avoiding scams

Be wary if someone asks you to pay by gift card, cryptocurrency or a money transfer service, sends you a "payment" link, says they are overseas and cannot meet, or pushes you to pay quickly. No one connected with the service will ask you for a password or bank details.
  • Keep your messages in email, so there is a record of what was agreed.
  • Never put your home address, phone number or bank details in a first message.
Junior dancers (under 18). Adverts are placed by adults only. A junior's costume is sold by a parent or guardian from their own account, and buying for a junior should always be done by a parent or guardian.

Reporting a problem

If an advert or a message looks like a scam, or is inappropriate or offensive, tell the DanceSport Admin Team with the Contact Form. Include the advert title and, for a message, the date it arrived.

Abuse of the service can lead to a Member's account being suspended, and may be reported to the relevant authority.
