NEW Elevation System for DanceSport Australia
DanceSport Australia has undertaken a major review of the current Elevation System with the view of creating a simpler and more equitable process for competitors.
Open meetings between DSA and Competitors were held earlier this year to discuss ways to improve the current Elevation System. The most common feedback received was that many did not understand the current Points system used for elevation. It was agreed that the system needed to be modified to find a way to reward performance while also encouraging maximum participation.
The Board of Directors have approved a NEW Elevation System that will commence from 1 January 2022.
A NEW Points System
Elevation will occur when a threshold of 60 points is reached.
Elevation Points are awarded when a couple wins an event competing against 3 or more couples.
How much is a win worth?
Each level of event will be allocated a specific number of points for a win:
Australian Championship | 60 points |
National Championship | 30 points |
State Open/Championship | 20 points |
Competition | 10 points |
Any combination of points can be used to achieve the amount required for elevation. As an example, elevation could occur after winning 1 x Australian Championship, or 6 x Competitions.
When will elevation occur?
Elevations will be applied to a competitors record on 1st January each year for all competitors who reach the 60 point threshold. This means that even if 60 points is reached during the year, elevation will not occur until 1 January.
COVID considerations
The event calendar has been severely disrupted during the last 2 years, thanks to COVID-19. Competitors have been unable to consistently compete during this time. It was agreed that all competitor points will be reset to zero on 1 January 2022 to start afresh in the new year.
Self Elevation still possible
The option to self elevate at any time is available to competitors. An application to self elevate can be made to your State Branch in writing.
NOTE: The updating of results, points and rankings has been severely affected by the disruption of Covid. DSA staff are working to update all records in line with the new Ranking and Elevation requirements for the start of the 2022 competition season.
