Introducing the DSA Athlete Licence
DanceSport Australia has now introduced an Athlete Licence for competitors taking part in events that are not covered by traditional DanceSport genre.
The Athlete Licence is for competitors competing in the following dance events:
- Para Dance
- All Abilities
- Breaking
- Other dance genres
Para Dance and All Abilities
Over the last few years, the popularity of Para Dance and All Abilities events have steadily increased at competitions throughout Australia. Many DanceSport Studios now include regular dance classes with a growing number of Coaches and Able-Bodied dancers learning techniques involving wheelchairs and willing to partner Students at competitions.
Breaking Competitors
2020 also saw the confirmation of Breaking (the competitive form of Break Dancing) as one of four additional sports approved for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The IOC recognises the WDSF as the official body for Breaking and therefore DSA is recognised by the AOC as the governing body for Breaking in Australia. All Breaking Competitions within Australia will be registered with DanceSport Australia and this created the need to provide a registration facility to include Breakers.
Member Protection Policy, Insurance and Voting Rights
The addition of the Athlete Licence means that all registered competitors competing at a dance competition are now covered by DSA’s insurance policy and its Member Protection Policy.
It should also be noted that Amateur, Professional and Accredited Members of DanceSport Australia are classed as full Members and have full voting rights.
Competitors in the Recreational, Under 16 Division and those with an Athlete Licence, do not have any voting rights.
DSA would like to extend a warm welcome to all new Athlete Licence holders and we look forward to seeing you at future DSA regsitered competitions.
