This change is effective immediately.

Skirt:
- Crinoline or Wire is permitted INSIDE of the hem of TOP skirt only
Replace line with:
- Crinoline or Wire is permitted INSIDE of the hem of skirt
Why the rule update?
DanceSport Australia’s guideline principles for children is to ensure that entry into competitions is accessible to as many people as possible and the cost should be as cheap as possible relative to the minimum standard of dress requirements.
This rule change brings our regulations into line with international standards and allows competitors greater access to costuming that is reasonably priced and can be easily purchased online.
What is crinoline?
Crinoline is a stiff, net-like material usually made from nylon fibers and often used in millinery and craft projects. For DanceSport, it’s commonly used to create fullness and structure in skirt hems.
What does the rule change mean?
For those choosing to use crinoline, dress skirts are no longer restricted to having crinoline in the top layer of fabric only.
This rule change allows the option of having crinoline in the underskirt and/or top layer of the skirt.
Important notes:
- This change is effective immediately
- Crinoline is optional
- Crinoline must be stitched inside the hem on the edge of the skirt
- Crinoline cannot be used as decoration
