How Latin Dance Shapes the Way We Walk
New research featured in Bioengineering (2023) reveals powerful insights into how Latin dance training affects biomechanics.
A study by Gao et al. compared experienced female Latin dancers with non-dancers to understand how long-term dance training influences everyday walking. Using motion capture and force plate analysis, the researchers found that Latin dancers demonstrated:
· Improved balance and postural control
· Enhanced Achilles tendon strength
· Greater patellofemoral joint stability
· More efficient joint motion and ground reaction forces
These differences suggest that Latin dance not only boosts performance but may also support rehabilitation for individuals with gait or balance issues.
Dance meets science and the results speak for themselves.
