Vision Impaired Dance Sport

9 GENERAL RULES

9.1 All competitions for Vision Impaired athletes will be conducted under World Para Dance Sport 2026 Rules and Regulations.

9.2 All Vision Impaired athletes must wear eye masks during competition.

9.3 Any athlete wishing to compete in Vision Impaired DanceSport events must have an Eligible Impairment and that Eligible Impairment must be permanent.

9.4 Upon first registration as an athlete with DanceSport Australia, the athlete must provide a Medical Diagnostics Form to confirm an underlying health condition and eligible impairment.

9.6 Effective (date to be confirmed) all current competitors with an Athletes Registration will be required to upload the Medical Diagnostics Form once, unless their underlying health condition and eligible impairment changes.

9.7 Music will be played in accordance with the DanceSport Australia tempi at Rule 22 — Music Tempi.


10 ELIGIBLE IMPAIRMENT TYPES

10.1 Vision Impairment

Athletes with Vision Impairment have reduced, or no vision caused by damage to the eye structure, optical nerves or optical pathways, or visual cortex of the brain.

10.2 Examples of Health Conditions

Retinitis Pigmentosa and Diabetic Retinopathy.

10.3 Minimum Impairment Criteria

  • (a) The athlete must have at least one (1) of the following impairments:
    • (i) Impairment of the eye structure
    • (ii) Impairment of the optical nerve / optical pathways
    • (iii) Impairment of the visual cortex
