6 SPORT CLASS

6.1 Combi — Latin 5 Dance, Standard 5 Dance

Must consist of one male and one female athlete. One competitor standing and one competitor using a wheelchair.

6.2 Combi — Freestyle/Showdance

May consist of two dancers of any gender, one standing and one wheelchair user.

6.3 Duo — Latin 5 Dance, Standard 5 Dance

Both competitors use a wheelchair.

6.4 Duo — Freestyle/Showdance

May consist of two wheelchair dancers of any gender.

6.5 Combi and Duo participants must dance with the same partner in Standard and Latin.

6.6 Single — (Conventional — 5 Dance — Waltz, Tango, Samba, Rumba, Jive, & Freestyle)

Competitor uses a wheelchair.

6.7 Junior Single — (Conventional — 3 Dance — Waltz, Samba, Jive)

Competitor uses a wheelchair.

6.8 Class 1 — Combi Standard (SC1)

Athletes competing in combi standard class 1 have lower trunk control, inability to actively straighten their trunk, and/or inability to keep their arm frame with the partner during dancing movements. You might expect to see athletes with spinal cord injury or spina bifida, quadriplegic cerebral palsy, poliomyelitis involving trunk and/or arm, or traumatic brain injury.

6.9 Class 2 — Combi Standard (SC2)

Athletes competing in combi standard class 2 have limited impairment in their upper body. These athletes can keep their trunks straight and can keep their arm frames with the partner during dancing movements. You might expect to see athletes with spinal cord injury or spina bifida, amputees, diplegic cerebral palsy, or poliomyelitis involving lower limbs only.

6.10 Class 1 — Duo Standard (SD1)

6.12 Class 1 — Combi Latin and Freestyle (L&F1)

Athletes competing in class 1 of combi Latin, and/or duo Latin, and/or single dances, and/or freestyle have impairments involving their trunk and arms. These athletes generally have no pelvic movement and poor trunk control. Reaching out of their centre of gravity is impossible unless compensated by support.

6.13 Class 2 — Combi Latin and Freestyle (L&F2)

Athletes competing in class 2 of combi Latin, and/or duo Latin and/or single dances, and/or freestyle have no or minimal impairment involving their trunk and pelvis. These athletes generally have good trunk control and can have various degrees of pelvic movement. They can reach out of their centre of gravity and generally have good wheel control.

6.14 Class 1 — Duo Latin and Freestyle (LA1)

For couples competing in duo Latin class 1, and/or freestyle, either both athletes have an L&F1 sport class, or the combined scores are less than 50 following formal Classification. These couples will have greater impairment in their ability to have a variety of movements and thus fewer choreography possibilities, or there will be difficulty in the choreography for the balance between the two athletes.

6.15 Class 2 — Duo Latin and Freestyle (LA2)

For couples competing in duo Latin class 2, and/or freestyle, either both athletes have an L&F2 sport class, or the combined scores are equal or more than 50 following formal Classification.
