===== 4 EXPECTED BEHAVIOURS =====

**4.1 Relevant Persons and Relevant Organisations**

[[rules_code_conduct:definitions#relevant_person|Relevant Persons]] and [[rules_code_conduct:definitions#relevant_organisation|Relevant Organisations]] **MUST**:
  * **(a)** Act and operate within the [[rules:start|Rules]] and [[rules_code_conduct:values|Values]] of DanceSport Australia;
  * **(b)** Be ethical, considerate, fair and honest in all dealings with other people and organisations;
  * **(c)** Act with honesty, integrity and objectivity and be accountable for their own behaviour and actions;
  * **(d)** Maintain appropriate, professional relationships with other Relevant Persons at all times;
  * **(e)** Accept and respect the authority of Officials and not use offensive language or behaviour, show unnecessary dissension, displeasure or disapproval towards an Official, whether in or outside an Activity venue.
  * **(f)** Treat all Relevant Organisation representatives and other stakeholders with courtesy, respect, dignity and have proper regard for their rights and obligations;
  * **(g)** Act with care and diligence to safeguard the health and safety of themselves and Relevant Organisation representatives;
  * **(h)** Call the police if they are concerned about escalating behaviour and their safety or the safety of others;
  * **(i)** Comply with all reasonable directions of, and accept all decisions of, Relevant Organisation representatives; and
  * **(j)** Respect and protect confidential information obtained through Activities, whether regarding individuals or organisational information;

**4.2 Prohibited Behaviours**

Relevant Persons and Relevant Organisations must **NOT**:
  * **(a)** Engage in conduct that is defined as Prohibited Conduct under any policy of the DanceSport Australia National Integrity Framework, namely:
    * **(i)** National Integrity Framework document;
    * **(ii)** DSA Member Protection Policy;
    * **(iii)** DSA Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy;
    * **(iv)** DSA Competition Manipulation and Sport Gambling Policy; and
    * **(v)** DSA Improper Use of Drugs and Medicine Policy;
  * **(b)** Engage in behaviour that is:
    * **(i)** drunk and disorderly;
    * **(ii)** public or domestic violence;
    * **(iii)** continued or unreasonable disruption of Relevant Organisation representatives performing their duties; or
    * **(iv)** unlawful or unsafe;
  * **(c)** Undertake any behaviour prohibited by a venue's ticketing or entry conditions, at, in or around that venue at which an Activity is taking place;
  * **(d)** Behave in a manner that creates a public nuisance and/or disturbance within or around a venue at which an Activity is taking place;
  * **(e)** Be in the possession or under the influence of an illegal drug, at, in or around a venue at which an Activity is taking place.

**4.3 Competitors**

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, [[rules:definitions#competitor|Competitors]] **MUST**:
  * **(a)** At all times act in a sportsmanlike manner and while in public, act in a way that does not bring DanceSport, fellow Competitors or DanceSport Australia into disrepute;
  * **(b)** Not connive in a breach of these rules by making false statements, by withholding information about their age, qualifications or any other matter that would result in their being ineligible to enter an Activity;
  * **(c)** Be a good sport and encourage their partner or fellow team members if they are part of a larger team;
  * **(d)** Be considerate to their partner and work as a team;
  * **(e)** Be willing to train and prepare for competition;
  * **(f)** Compete only when fit to participate according to the requirements of a specific event within an Activity;

**4.4 Coaches**

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, [[rules:definitions#accredited_coach|Coaches]] must **NOT**:
  * **(a)** Misrepresent their Coaching accreditation level or experience;
  * **(b)** Falsely claim to be the Coach of a particular Competitor, couple or team, or misrepresent the competition results they have achieved as a Coach;
  * **(c)** Seek by any means to improperly influence or intimidate an adjudicator;
  * **(d)** Discuss with an adjudicator who is on the judging panel for an event the merits of the performance of any Competitor on the day of the Activity;
  * **(e)** Undertake any conduct that is intended to gain for a Competitor an unfair advantage over other Competitors;
  * **(f)** Solicit engagement as a Coach or teacher in any of the DanceSport styles on the day of the Activity;
  * **(g)** Extend the progression of competitors beyond their capability and stage of development.
  * **(h)** Confuse the role of Coach with their own creative aspirations;
  * **(i)** Ridicule a couple for making mistakes or losing a competition;
  * **(j)** Hold back Competitors in their care if they need to be taught by other Coaches to continue their progress;

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, Coaches **MUST**:
  * **(k)** Teach choreography that is within the skill level of the couple, and should never supersede the need for technical skill, artistic interpretation and floorcraft by the competitor;
  * **(l)** Acknowledge the skills they have and the things which they are good at;
  * **(m)** Develop Competitors' respect for the ability of opponents and opposing Coaches;
  * **(n)** Follow medical advice when determining when an injured Competitor is ready to train again;
  * **(o)** Continue to develop their skills by attending seminars and workshops and keeping themselves informed on developments in technique, style and sound coaching principles.
  * **(p)** Teach students that honest effort is as important as winning so that the result of each competition is accepted without undue disappointment.

**4.5 Parents and Spectators**

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, parents and spectators must **NOT**:
  * **(a)** Put undue pressure on children, berate them or criticise their performance;
  * **(b)** Connive in a breach of these rules by making false statements, by withholding information about a Competitor's age, grade, qualifications, or other matters that would result in their being ineligible to enter an event;
  * **(c)** Condone any breach of the DSA Rules and DSA Code of Conduct by Competitors;
  * **(d)** Force an unwilling child to participate in DanceSport;
  * **(e)** Post photographs on social media of Coaches who are adjudicating at the competition.

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, parents and spectators **MUST**:
  * **(f)** Remember that children are involved in DanceSport for their own enjoyment and fulfilment, not yours;
  * **(g)** Teach competitors that honest effort is as important as winning so that the result of each competition is accepted without undue disappointment;
  * **(h)** Encourage competitors to work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship;
  * **(i)** Have realistic expectations for competitors and/or their partner;
  * **(j)** Be honest, but generous with your praise when it is deserved;
  * **(k)** Remember that children learn best by example, and applaud good performances by opponents;
  * **(l)** Appreciate the contribution and commitment of Coaches; and
  * **(m)** Ensure that your children are supervised at all times.

**4.6 Scrutineers**

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, [[rules:definitions#scrutineer|Scrutineers]] must **NOT**:
  * **(a)** Misrepresent, or make a false statement in relation to, their Scrutineer's Licence or experience;
  * **(b)** Coach, teach or give advice to a participating couple during an event which they are scrutineering;
  * **(c)** Discuss with another Official, Adjudicator, Scrutineer or Spectator, the merits of the performance or dress of a Competitor in an Activity;
  * **(d)** Undertake any conduct that is intended to gain for a Competitor an unfair advantage over other Competitors;
  * **(e)** Condone discriminatory or improper behaviour by a fellow Scrutineer;
  * **(f)** Disclose the recall details or final results of any event without the consent of either the Chairperson of Adjudicators or the competition organiser;
  * **(g)** When Scrutineering at an Activity:
    * **(i)** Arrive late;
    * **(ii)** Consume alcohol;
    * **(iii)** Offer opinion on Competitor's dress, manner of performance prior to or during a competition or championship;
    * **(iv)** Dress inappropriately;
    * **(v)** Criticise members of the dance fraternity, demonstrate anger, frustration or irritability.

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, Scrutineers **MUST**:
  * **(h)** Occupy a position of trust in their capacity as a Scrutineer, and must maintain the highest standard of compliance at all times.
  * **(i)** Comply with the requirements of the Scrutineer's Licence.

**4.7 Adjudicators**

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, [[rules:definitions#accredited_adjudicator|Adjudicators]] must **NOT**:
  * **(a)** Misrepresent their Adjudicator's accreditation level or experience.
  * **(b)** Make a false statement in relation to their Adjudicator's Licence.
  * **(c)** Coach, teach or give advice to a participating competitor during an Activity at which they are judging.
  * **(d)** Discuss the performance of any competitor with spectators, Competitors or Coaches.
  * **(e)** Seek to improperly influence or intimidate another adjudicator.
  * **(f)** Discuss with any other adjudicator who is on the judging panel, the merits of the performance of a Competitor in that Activity.
  * **(g)** Mark or threaten to mark a couple other than on their merits.
  * **(h)** Undertake any conduct that is intended to gain for a Competitor an unfair advantage over other Competitors.
  * **(i)** Condone discriminatory or improper behaviour by a fellow adjudicator.
  * **(j)** Participate on a judging panel if they know their Adjudicator's Licence is not active.
  * **(k)** Try to cover up marking mistakes or fail to ask for help when required.
  * **(l)** Criticise members of the dance fraternity, demonstrate anger, frustration or irritability.
  * **(m)** Mark contrary to any DanceSport rules.
  * **(n)** When acting as a participating Adjudicator:
    * **(i)** Arrive late.
    * **(ii)** Consume alcohol.
    * **(iii)** Offer opinion on Competitor's dress, manner of performance prior to or during the Activity.
    * **(iv)** Dress inappropriately.
    * **(v)** Engage in secretive conversations.

To the extent not already defined in the DSA Code of Conduct, Adjudicators **MUST**:
  * **(o)** Hold qualifications with their NSO equivalent to those required by DSA officials.
  * **(p)** Retire from the panel of an event on any occasion they have a member of their own immediate or extended family competing in that event.
  * **(q)** Understand that they occupy a position of trust in their capacity as an Adjudicator, and must maintain the highest standard of compliance at all times.
  * **(r)** Be consistent, objective, and neutral in their decisions.
  * **(s)** Be meticulous in penalising dangerous and/or violent behaviour.
  * **(t)** Maintain and develop their judging skills by keeping themselves informed on developments in technique, style and sound judging principles.
  * **(u)** Comply with the basic requirement of an Adjudicator's Licence that any Adjudicator engaged to officiate at an Activity shall on arrival at the venue:
    * **(i)** Report their presence to the Chairperson of Adjudicators and Competition Organiser.
    * **(ii)** Attend the Adjudicator Briefing given by the Chairperson of Adjudicators.
    * **(iii)** Ascertain the timetable of the competitions.
    * **(iv)** Be available as scheduled.
  * **(v)** While adjudicating at an Activity:
    * **(i)** Stand apart or be seated apart from one another, and at such locations that they do not interfere with the competitors.
    * **(ii)** Move to whatever position is required to see all of competitors.
    * **(iii)** Judge independently and not compare notes with the other Adjudicators.
    * **(iv)** If judging by paper, clearly mark and sign their score cards in ink, including their code letter. Each and every alteration to the score card must be initialled by the adjudicator.
  * **(w)** Shall not take to the floor to adjudicate an event after the music has commenced or leave the floor until the music for that event has ceased.
  * **(x)** Social Media: In relation to any event in which an adjudicator is engaged and/or participating, the adjudicator shall not allow posts of any kind to social media, pre, post, or during a competition. Nor shall they allow their image to be posted to social media by a third party. Adjudicators must not allow images of themselves with a competitor(s) they have adjudicated that day to be posted by a third party.
  * **(y)** Adjudicators that sponsor events they are officiating at, must not have their image displayed in advertising or on screens.
  * **(z)** Adhere to the Competition Organiser's dress code for adjudicators at an Activity.

Non-compliance with a request and/or instruction from the Chairperson of Adjudicators is a sanctionable breach of this code.
